Ramsey County sheriff probing employee’s deals with convicted fraudsters.
Earlier in the week, the Star Tribune published a lengthy expose on how Omar Jamal was shaking down fraudsters from the infamous nonprofit Feeding Our Future for six-figure payments. As you picked up from the headline above, Jamal is currently working for the Sheriff’s office as a paid employee. The Star Tribune reports,
Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher is conducting an internal probe of Omar Jamal, one of his employees, after current and former members of the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners expressed concerns about the findings of a Minnesota Star Tribune investigation into Jamal’s dealings with fraudsters.
It has been established that Jamal is an illegal alien, with a still-valid 2011 final deportation order pending against him. How did he get hired at a government agency to begin with? Was any background check done? He has felony convictions for lying on immigration paperwork on his permanent record.
Digging further into Jamal’s history uncovers a 2022 political donation to now-state representative Samakab Hussein (D-St. Paul). Jamal donated $500 to Hussein that year, listing the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office as his employer.
The Candidate’s Handbook published by the state Campaign Finance Board (p. 16) reads as follows,
Federal law also prohibits contributions from foreign nationals to candidate committees for any level of office. More information on this prohibition is available at www.fec.gov/updates/foreignnationals/.
The Board later informs,
The violation that resulted from the prohibited contribution is not cured by returning the contribution more than 90 days after it was deposited and, as a result, will be dealt with by the Board.

Making any contribution or donation of money or other thing of value, or making any expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement in connection with any federal, state or local election in the United States.
