Alejandro Rojas Garcia, age 65 of Mexico, was convicted by a federal jury this week of “attempted production of child pornography.”

The four-day trial took place at the federal courthouse in downtown Minneapolis. Garcia faces a mandatory minimum sentence of fifteen (15) years in federal prison. The U.S. Dept. of Justice issued a press release. The press release notes that Garcia’s video file storage device was hidden in a hollowed-out crucifix. “Suffer little children.”
As horrific as the details included in the press release are, they truly do not capture the full depravity of the Garcia case (File No. 25-cr-98). The underlying case began in state court, where Garcia was charged with eleven (11) felony counts.
The case arose out of Stillwater (MN), where Garcia was babysitting two sisters, ages 8 and 12. Based on the original, and later amended, police complaints filed in the state case (File No. 82-CR-24-1329), I would characterize Garcia’s efforts as going far beyond “attempted” and that significant harm was done to the children in the course of the production, which occurred on multiple occasions over an extended period from 2023 to 24. The state case includes two felony charges of first-degree child rape.
Garcia was arrested by local police in April 2024. After the video evidence in the state case was produced, a federal criminal complaint was filed in February 2025 and a federal grand jury indictment was handed down in March 2025.
Now that the federal case is complete, the state may resume its prosecution of Garcia.
