On Friday October 2nd two men were shot in the parking lot of the Eden Prairie High School homecoming football game. In the two weeks since the shooting, authorities have identified at least six of the men involved in the violence and charged five of those men for their specific roles.

Shooter arrested

As reported earlier, the lone shooter was identified as Adam Abdihakeem Adam, 18, of St. Louis Park. The Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) arrested Adam in Minneapolis on Thursday October 8th. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office (HCAO) issued formal charges of 2nd degree assault and riot against Adam on October 9th holding him in jail on $100,000 bail.  Adam posted bail on Saturday October 10th and made his first court appearance, out of custody earlier this week on Monday October 12th.

More defendants identified

Throughout this past week four additional defendants were charged, arrested, and booked into the Hennepin County Jail for their involvement in the violence. Each of these defendants had been charged by the Eden Prairie City Attorney with a single count of Gross Misdemeanor Riot, with a requested bail of $6,000.

According to the criminal complaints filed against these four men, police ejected Musab Ibrahim Aden, 18, and an unnamed 17-year-old identified as K.A.A., both of St. Paul, from the football stands after a disturbance occurred involving several Somali males. “Gang signs” were being flashed by several of the males.

As Aden and K.A.A. walked through the parking lot, two cars entered the lot – one driven by Adam who was alone, and one driven by Omar Adan Abdullahi, 19, of Burnsville, and occupied by Abdirahman Ahmed Jama, 18, of Bloomington, and Mahamed Ali Haji, 20, of Savage.

Abdirahman Jama, 18, (Riot)

Omar Abdullahi, 19 (Riot)

Mahamed Haji, 20 (riot)

A physical fight broke out between all of these men and others yet identified. Adam returned to his car and retrieved a firearm which he then fired into the crowd striking Aden and K.A.A.  The defendants fled the area.

The police used combinations of witness statements, cell phone data, and surveillance footage to develop probable cause against the five men charged so far.  It is unclear at this time whether K.A.A. will face adjudication as a juvenile.

Arrests of rioters

Throughout the week the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Aden in St. Paul, Abdullahi in Burnsville, and Haji in Savage, while the Bloomington Police Department arrested Jama in Bloomington.

Aden posted bail on October 15th less than six hours after his arrest. The other defendants charged with Riot remain in custody.

The defendants are being prosecuted separately and their next court appearances are scheduled on various dates and in separate locations to avoid confrontations in and around the courtrooms.
