Before voting on November 3rd for your state and federal representatives, don’t forget energy affordability! I have graded four candidates below, along with the DFL and GOP.

For your election day convenience, I reproduce below highlights from what I have written before on the energy affordability platforms of, and candidates from, both the DFL and GOP.

In summary, my gradings, using the well understood A, B, C, D and F scale, are as follows:

  • Peggy Flanagan (DFL) “F” vs Michele Tafoya (GOP) “A”
  • Amy Klobuchar (DFL) “F” vs Lisa Demuth (GOP) “A”
  • DFL State Platform “F” vs GOP State Platform “A”

Peggy Flanagan vs Michele Tafoya

My full analysis of this contest of ideas, in terms of energy affordability, can be found here from October 31, 2026: “US Senate race: Peggy Flanagan vs Michele Tafoya on energy affordability” One representative quote from each candidate is reproduced below.

The innovation, development, and deployment of renewables are critical to energy security in the 21st century and to mitigating the extreme weather impacting us all. – Peggy Flanagan

The far left talks about “affordability,” but they’ve spent decades at war against the sources of power that actually work. – Michele Tafoya

Amy Klobuchar vs Lisa Demuth

My full analysis of this contest of ideas, in terms of energy affordability, can be found here from October 28, 2026: “MN energy affordability: Have your say on November 2nd & 3rd” One representative quote from each candidate is reproduced below.

And I’ll hold the line on utility bills by modernizing Minnesota’s power grid and adding more affordable, renewable energy. – Amy Klobuchar

I will repeal Minnesota’s longstanding ban on nuclear energy, and reform burdensome mandates imposed by Democrats that are driving up your heating and electric bills. – Lisa Demuth

DFL Platform vs GOP Platform

My full analysis of this contest of ideas, in terms of energy affordability, can be found here from July 30, 2026: “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: the 2026 energy policy platforms of the DFL and GOP” One representative quote from each party is reproduced below.

We Oppose: Nuclear power, as it is not a viable energy source. We Support: Increased use of renewable energy sources. – MN DFL

We oppose policies and mandates based on the Theory of Man-Made Global Warming, as well as any energy policies arising from it. We support a free market for all energy and oppose government mandates, subsidies or monopolies. – MN GOP

Keith Ellison vs Ron Schutz

Neither Keith Ellison (DFL) nor Ron Schutz (GOP) have energy affordability platforms. Nevertheless, one representative quote from each candidate is reproduced below.

Right now, we know that many utility customers are having trouble affording their utility bills. But what does “affordability” really mean? – Keith Ellison

Every day,…Minnesotans…who can least afford it are targeted by powerful individuals and corporations who believe they can get away with it. – Ron Schutz

In my opinion:

  • “affordability” is not skyrocketing prices and bills, plus sinking uses, as per below;
  • “powerful individuals and corporations” should include the PUC and Xcel.

According to the Minnesota Secretary of State:

In state and federal elections, towns with less than 500 residents are not required to open until 10 a.m. but most choose to open at 7 a.m.
