Ahmed Abdul Razaq Al Obaidi and Muhammed Abdullah Kahn made their first appearance this afternoon in federal court to face charges of SNAP (food stamp) fraud. Your correspondent was there.
According to the complaint filed in the case, both men worked at AK Grocery and Tobacco of St. Paul and were caught up in an undercover operation looking into SNAP benefit-card fraud this past winter.

Al Obaidi participated in today’s proceedings with the help of an Arabic-language interpreter. Kahn, age 26, apparently is facing immigration-related issues.
Both men are due back in court on Monday October 26.
