Your correspondent spent the entire afternoon today (Thursday) attending federal court in downtown Minneapolis. Three new Medicaid fraud cases were filed and the defendants were making their first court appearances.

One defendant, Feisal Mohamed Elmi, spent his turn before the judge trying to preserve his weekend plans to fly to the United Kingdom on a one-way ticket. Just a pre-planned overseas trip to visit his immediate family, who recently all moved to Britain, he said. On a one-way ticket. It came out in court that he had earlier wired $500,000 overseas and already owns real estate in Africa. A separate hearing will be held tomorrow (Friday) morning on his Saturday travel plans.

Mr. Elmi was indicted on eleven (11) counts of fraud related to the operation of his autism clinic, Aspen Associates LLC (File No. 26-cr-191). According to the indictment, the fraud continued until January 2026.

Also appearing was Faiza Osman Ahmed, indicted on six (6) counts of Medicaid fraud through her Home Sweet Home Health Care LLC (File No. 26-cr-193). The indictment alleges that the fraud continued through March 2026.

Finally, we have Jama Yusuf Mohamod, indicted on eight (8) counts of Medicaid fraud through his American Home Health Care LLC (File No. 26-cr-194). I’m not making this up. The indictment alleges that the fraud continued through September 2026.
