Center of the American Experiment is Minnesota’s leading policy organization. Its mission is to promote free-market, limited government policies. In addition to writing and commissioning papers, holding public meetings and informing legislators, the Center engages in an aggressive outreach program including op-eds, radio ads, videos, a podcast, television ads, billboards, emails, an active website (www.americanexperiment.org), a quarterly magazine, Thinking Minnesota, with a circulation of over 25,000, social media, and more.

While headquartered in Minnesota, the Center’s focus is increasingly national, especially in its energy work. American Experiment has done energy work in approximately 15 states, as well as at the national level.

About the Position:

American Experiment is a national leader in exposing how liberal energy policies drive up the cost of living and create energy shortages. We are hiring a full-time Energy Policy Fellow to fight government mandates and support free-market energy policies that promote affordable, reliable energy in Minnesota, and throughout the United States.

The position will include research; writing papers, op-eds, web site posts, etc.; participating in public events; testifying before legislative bodies; and participating in podcasts, social media videos, and the like.

This position is open to candidates with a broad range of experience. Applicants will ideally have experience in the energy space and a basic understanding of commodity markets. They will also have strong research, writing, and data analysis skills.

The Energy Policy Fellow will work from the Center’s office in Minnetonka, MN.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft reports on energy issues, including wind and solar energy proposals
  • Write op-eds for newspapers and other media outlets
  • Write approximately three to four posts on energy issues per week at AmericanExperiment.org
  • Analyze utility company filings, data regarding electricity generation, cost and usage, and other data relating to the use and production of energy
  • Participate in public events, appear as a guest on radio and television programs
  • Participate in American Experiment’s social media and outreach efforts, including Facebook, X, Instagram, the American Experiment podcast, etc.
  • As appropriate, testify before legislative committees

Qualifications:

  • 0-10 years of experience working in energy policy
  • Strong research, writing, data analysis, and oral communication skills
  • Competence with Microsoft Excel
  • A background in public policy, history, or a field of science
  • Public speaking skills
  • Alignment with American Experiment’s mission
