Anthony Waddell Jefferson and Lester Brown, both of Philadelphia, were in federal court in downtown Minneapolis to enter guilty pleas for their involvement in a fraud against the now-discontinued housing stabilization services (HSS) Medicaid program in Minnesota.

Charges were filed against the two back in December. Perhaps what was most encouraging about yesterday’s events was the simple fact that a depleted U.S. Attorney’s office was able to secure two additional fraud convictions.

Jefferson’s plea agreement includes the admission that he and Brown stole $3.6 million from the program. Jefferson faces a guideline prison sentence of 5 to 6 years in prison. The guideline sentence for Brown is lower, 3 to 4 years.

Sentencing will be scheduled for a later date.
