Do we file this one under “better late than never”? or “election interference”? Today, the state Attorney General filed this press release under the headline,

Attorney General Ellison files false claims lawsuits against businesses and individuals for child nutrition fraud.

Ellison announces,

Two civil lawsuits — against Nasib Bakery, and East African Healthcare Network and related entities and individuals — allege defendants submitted millions in false claims to Minnesota Department of Education

Again, these are civil lawsuits, not criminal charges. If you read the filings (linked in the press release) you find out that the conduct at issue took place in 2020-21, some five to six years ago. We would usually describe these lawsuits as “Feeding Our Future-related.” Technically, however, they involve a different free-food nonprofit, Partners in Nutrition (PIN).

Why now? I first mentioned the East African Healthcare Network (EAHN) in this post from February 2022. Among the defendants also named in the 2026 lawsuit are two companies, Midwest Pizza and Cedar Halal Pizza, that I have also been writing about for years.

But with days to go in his bid for a third term as state attorney general, Keith Ellison has been born again…as a fraud fighter?
