In just the past few weeks we’ve had a rash of assaults on federal officers take place in the Metro area, which haven’t been making many headlines. A few examples and a Minnesota Man update,
Juan Carlos Rodriquez Romero, of Cuba, was indicted on three counts of assaulting three (3) U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers (with injuries) in an incident occurring on December 21. The officers were making an arrest to begin deportation proceedings against Mr. Rodriquez.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office issued a press release on this case. Rodriquez, age 54 of St. Paul, hit one officer on foot with his car and damaged two unrelated parked vehicles in an effort to escape arrest. Rodriquez then bit a second officer. Both of those ICE officers had to go to the hospital. In case the situation is unclear, he is an illegal alien.
After a detention hearing on January 8, Rodriguez was “released” on bond, only to be immediately picked up by ICE. His lawyer then filed a motion seeking to block his deportation back to Cuba (or elsewhere) on the grounds that Rodriquez wouldn’t be around then to stand trial on the other felonies. What?
Jose Luis Huerta-Gonzales is a previously deported illegal alien from Ecuador.

His previous deportation from America occurred in 2019, following his state felony conviction for criminal sexual conduct, a review of state and federal court records reveals.
Born Christmas Day, 1999. his state felony case involved conduct when Huerta would have been aged 18. The crime took place in Richfield, and the victim was aged 15 at the time. He pled guilty to the felony charge, was given a stayed state prison sentence and was deported in September 2019. Huerta had a previous removal order dating back to 2015.
On December 10, ICE agents located Huerta at the Minneapolis address he listed on his state sex offender registration. A high-speed chase had to be abandoned for public safety reasons. Agents returned on December 11. Huerta was indicted on the felony re-entry charge on January 6. He is due back in federal court on January 22.
Huerta is exactly the sort of Minnesota Man that Minneapolis Mayor is so eager to defend.
Olvin Nahum Leon-Molina has been charged with (1) the assault of two federal officers (both ICE), (2) property damage ($13,550, he rammed his car into an ICE SUV), and (3) illegal entry into the United States. All of those are federal crimes and ARE currently being prosecuted against Leon.

He was indicted on January 6 for that incident which occurred back on October 24. Leon is due back in court on February 23.
Alex Romeo Venegas-Cruz is charged with ramming an occupied Border Patrol vehicle on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 7.

Officers found a knife with a six-inch blade and a bunch of ammunition in Venegas’ vehicle. He remains in custody and is due back in court on January 14 for a detention hearing.
