Fredy Kirrington-Mendoza, age 35, wins Minnesota Dad of the Week honors.

A name matching Mr. Kirrington’s appears in court records in St. Cloud, Sherburne County, as a convicted felon for a January 2025 domestic incident. Police came to his St. Cloud home to discover that he had assaulted his wife and threatened her with a large kitchen knife. Also on the victim list was his 14-year-old stepson, who had intervened in the incident.

Kirrington was charged with four counts in the incident, two at the felony level. He pled down to the lesser felony, received a stayed prison sentence, and was given credit for time-served against his local jail sentence.

It appears that ICE agents picked up Mr. Kirrington on the day of his state sentencing. He was scheduled to be in court today for his federal sentencing on the felony charge of illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien.

Kirrington’s defense attorney reports that once his client is returned to his native Honduras, he plans to take up gold panning as a profession.

Also pleading guilty to that same federal charge today was Juan Carlos Perez-Cruz of Mexico. More recently, Mr. Perez has been residing in Rochester.

Mr. Perez and Mr. Kirrington share three things in common: a history of domestic violence, stepfatherhood, and participation in the federal Fast Track program for removal of previously deported aliens.

Mr. Perez, age 27, was most recently arrested in May on a domestic assault felony charge. In this incident the victims were his spouse and minor stepdaughter. It appears that ICE agents picked up Mr. Perez after his first court appearance in the most recent Rochester case.

In February 2025, Perez pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge arising from a 2024 domestic assault incident.

In April 2025, Perez pled guilty to two gross misdemeanor counts arising from an August 2020 incident where he intentionally and repeatedly rammed his Toyota Scion into the pickup truck of a romantic rival. A Scion would not have been my weapon of choice.

The 2020 case took so long to reach a resolution on account of the September 2020 deportation of Mr. Perez back to Mexico. In April 2025, Perez received a stayed sentence and was placed on probation for two years.

After today’s federal felony conviction, he will soon be returning to Mexico.

Adios, Juan!
