This afternoon, the U.S. Attorney indicted Defendant No. 72 in the sprawling free-food scandal. Dorothy Jean Moore, age 57, billed out of Apple Valley, made her initial court appearance at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Minneapolis at 3 p.m. this afternoon.

The press release can be read here. The indictment alleges that Moore claimed $1.4 million through Feeding Our Future.

She is charged with three counts of wire fraud and two counts of money laundering. Under the money laundering, swag includes an Infiniti SUV and a Silverado pickup. She also, allegedly, used ill-gotten gains for travel and Louis Vuitton purchases.

The center of her alleged scam was her Apple Valley restaurant, Jean’s Soul Food. Her operating sites were four churches in Burnsville, St. Paul, and Minneapolis.

New Salem Missionary Baptist Church is run by a prominent north Minneapolis pastor, the Rev. Jerry McAfee. 

Court records indicate that the bulk of the food claims were made on behalf of sites in Burnsville and St. Paul.

Moore was released, pending trial.
