ICE now says that German Llangari Inga, age 35, has been deported to Ecudor. The Star Tribune reports.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed German Llangari Inga, an illegally present Ecuadorean national, to Ecuador on June 24 … pursuant to a final order of removal issued by a federal immigration judge.

You will recall that he was accused of causing a fatal car crash in north Minneapolis last August, while driving extremely drunk.

Soft-on-crime Hennepin County prosecutor Mary Moriarty says she’s outraged.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said in a statement Wednesday to the Minnesota Star Tribune that the deportation of Llangari Inga, 35, means he “will not face any consequences for the death” of 31-year-old Victoria Eileen Harwell of Minneapolis, despite being charged for the Aug. 3, 2024, head-on fatal collision.

“The federal government’s dangerous, mindless commitment to deporting people who should be held accountable in the communities they harmed is devastating to victims and their loved ones,” County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a statement.

“Mindless”? Moriarty thought so little of the case that she went from August until May without filing any charges. She thought that Llangari Inga was such a low-level threat that she let him out of jail (facing three (3) felony counts), twice.

Llangari Inga was officially a no-show for a June 17 hearing in his state case. The state issued an arrest warrant and cancelled his $100,000 bond. They signaled some virtue by upping his bail amount to $1 million, now that it won’t make any difference.

The bond company had notified the state court in May that he would not appear at his June court date. The County moved for forfeiture anyway. The only practical effect of this move would be to discourage bail companies from bonding illegal immigrants. I’m ok with that result, but I doubt that’s what Moriarty intends.

They rescheduled the missed hearing for early August. [Spoiler Alert: he won’t be there.]

Moriarty also tries to look tough by seeking “aggravated” sentencing in the case that will never go to trial. That motion could have been made at any point before he was arrested by ICE, rather than a full month after.

One thing they didn’t do was to ask ICE to make him available for state court hearings. If they really cared about Llangari Inga facing justice, they would have worked with the Feds to ensure his appearance.

As for the bond forfeiture, I have zero sympathy for the insurance company involved.

From ICE’s standpoint, Moriarty twice refused to hand him over to their custody. They acted while they could.

¡Adios, Germán, adios!
