Najmo Ahmed was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison this afternoon. That’s months, not years. KSTP-5 reports,
Feeding Our Future participant sentenced to 14 months after court finds that she tried to help facilitate fugitive husband’s surrender
A one-time fugitive herself, Ahmed was indicted in January 2024, in absentia, along with her fugitive husband, Said Ereg. The couple operated the Evergreen Grocery in south Minneapolis. They were accused of stealing more than $4 million from the federal child nutrition program.

Ereg himself returned from Kenya just last week and turned himself in to federal authorities to face justice. As for Ahmed, she had returned to America in late 2024 and reached a plea agreement with the Dept. of Justice last year.
Prosecutors had recommended a sentence of more than 2 years in prison. The defense asked for a sentence of just six months in jail. 14 months split the difference.
Ahmed is the 17th defendant convicted in the Feeding Our Future scandal to be sentenced, Here are the results from the first 16.

Ahmed is Defendant No. 62 (out of about 80 overall) in the case and her guilty plea represented the 40th conviction (out of 67) in the sprawling fraud scandal.
No date has been set for Ereg’s next court appearance.
