German Tinoco-Perez, age 35, is scheduled to appear in federal court in downtown St. Paul this afternoon. He is charged with a felony count of illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien and is expected to plead guilty.
In a pre-hearing court filing, his attorney states in regards to the Mexican-national Tinoco,
Mr. Tinoco-Perez was present in the United States because he wanted a better life
for his family, to escape the crushing poverty and lack of opportunity in his native country. It can be difficult for some of us to realize how desperate people can be under such circumstances, so much so that they are willing to risk their very lives in migrating though several countries in search of hope.
That doesn’t sound much like remorse. His lawyer argues for a sentence of time served, in order to speed Tinoco’s return to Mexico.
The indictment in the case records two previous deportations for Tinoco, in 2012 and 2019. For this third deportation, he will return to Mexico as a convicted felon.
Court records show that Tinoco was arrested in North Dakota and was listed as being held in ICE custody in June. In July, he was transferred to Minnesota to face the felony illegal re-entry count.
An internet search reveals a local Minnesota arrest for failure to appear in August 2024.
¡Adiós, Germán!
