Abdullahe Nur Jesow entered the 49th guilty plea in the sprawling free-food scandal, becoming the 56th person to be convicted overall.
Jesow pled guilty to one count from the original indictment in the case at the federal courthouse in downtown Minneapolis this afternoon.
The U.S. Attorney’s office put out a press release that outlines the case.
Jesow, now aged 65, was Defendant No. 28 in the case (out of 75 overall), one of eight members of the S&S Catering group. With Jesow’s guilty plea, all eight have been convicted in the case, and the courtroom trial that had been scheduled for next month is now cancelled.
Jesow succeeded in entering a guilty plea in his second attempt. More than a year ago, he was supposed to enter a guilty plea but showed up late for his court hearing and in no mood to cooperate. The difference a year makes, I guess.
In anticipation of that August 2024 hearing, I had written up a profile of Jesow’s role in the scandal.
No sentencing date has been set, as of yet.
